All entrants must fulfil all of the points below to be eligible to apply.

• Current UK Medical/Dental Student or planning to apply to Graduate Medicine.
• Black, Asian or Ethnic Minority.
• State-funded secondary and higher level (pre-university) education.
• No parents working as medical doctors in the UK.


Please produce a mini-essay with the following title:

Why is diversity important in Medicine and how does it impact patient care?

Your essay should have:

• No more than 500 words (not including titles and references).
• A maximum of 3 Figures or Tables.
• Submitted as a MS word or PDF document.
• Anonymised with no author or institution details in the document
• Please provide a cover letter with your name and contact details.

Applications close at midnight on 17th July 2022 and the award will be announced in September 2022.

All applicants will be invited to attend an equality and diversity leadership event on 28th September 2022.

The winner will be awarded with:

An introduction to a UK radiologist with a defined research, educational or service improvement project - Costs to support presentation of work at a UK or European Conference (up to £1000) including;

• Costs related to production of material (e.g. Poster printing).
• Conference registration.
• Travel & Accommodation.
• Reasonable costs for food and drink.

The winning essay will be published on the RCR’s website and in their newsletter.

The winner and five runners up will also receive a one year subscription to the Royal College of Radiology journal, Clinical Radiology.
